Confluence: A Self-Portrait
The wild streams of Ireland and Scotland don't meet the Germanic Rhine, of course. I imagine them as metaphors for my maternal and paternal families, and the traditions and values that flow from each. The Celtic spirit of music, mist and untamed places is juxtaposed with a refined, formal Germanic propriety - I am an amalgam of the two. They have marked my psyche, as much as a tattoo - and so I place them upon the outline of my back.
